In Memory of Chichi

A few days ago, I was just telling him that I couldn’t imagine how I was going to feel when my hamsters die. I didn’t realize I’d be blogging about this, this soon.

Today, when I got home, I found Chichi dead. :( Immediately, tears started falling from my eyes. I went away, called Mom and asked her if she could check on her to make sure — I didn’t have the courage to hold her cold and dead body. :( Mom said Chichi didn’t have any wounds, nor was there any trace that she was attacked. She just.. died.

As Mom took her out of the cage, I sat on the couch, holding the other hamster, Chuchu, on one hand, texting Jayvee with the other hand to tell him the news (we always shared this love for our pets), and silently wiping my tears away.

I think, though, that I am quite an improvement now compared with my hysterics when Chuchu was attacked by a giant house rat. I have this certain emotional attachment to my pets, one I can’t describe with words. But I guess I’m beginning to learn that while it’s okay to cry, crying does not change the situation, it’s merely a way of releasing what’s inside so that you have more room to breathe, and more space to fill with strength so that you can face the music gracefully and move on.

In Memory of Chichi

I’m sad. But I know this, too, shall pass.

Wendy and Chichi are now together in hamster paradise. It feels terrible, I know! Arriving home one day learning that your pet is no longer breathing. So when are you going to get a new hamster?

Know what, I really really wanted to buy a pet turtle but my superstitious wife would not allow me.

Is it okay to buy a girl hamster again? I mean, hindi ba sila mag aaway? Parang wala akong nakikitang hamster na 4 months old. Ok lang bang i-pair up ulit yung male hamster with a younger hamster? Grr :(

Pet turtle? I think that’s cute! My ninong, who is a pastor, have about three little turtles in their house.

“…it’s merely a way of releasing what’s inside so that you have more room to breathe, and more space to fill with strength…” Strikingly true.

A friend used to love pets a lot. When one she loved very much passed away, she decided she didn’t want any more. Too much hurt.

I was actually pretty upset myself when my fighting fish disappeared from the office one day. I never really discovered what happened to him.

I know how it feels. I guess it’s for that same reason that I stopped having a pet for a while. Now nalang ulit.

That’s sad what happened to your fish :( They’re all bound to die naman eh, we just have to enjoy them while it lasts.

aww..just finished cryin. err. I never thought I’d cry again..i miss my hamsters. Mocha died Last Sept 25…he had the same symptoms like your friend Shiela’s Utoy. The younger one, Ccino died just last month. They were both more than two years old already…so I guess it was really their time. :c

[…] As I said, I’ve learned that crying does not change the situation, but simply a release so that one has more room to fill with strength to cope, and to move on — at least that’s how it has worked for me. Come to think of it, no occasion will ever be the same again. There will always be that empty seat in Christmasses, and birthdays, and anniversaries, to come. As Miss Noemi always puts it, I’m entering my “new normal”. This is how it’s always gonna be from now on, and I need not be sad about it. We will always miss Dad, but there will always be that unexplainable joy that comes with knowing that even though he’s not here with us anymore, his memory lives on whatever happens and wherever we go.
